Meg Hackett

Trainer

Hey! I?m Meg, soon to be known as your dog's favorite trainer! I?ve been working with dogs of all breeds and sizes for the last decade. I started with a pet sitting walking business, moved forward and got a degree in pet grooming and later, a degree as a veterinary technician. Through the covid chaos, I decided to open my own grooming salon and am the proud owner of three time "JC Press Best Dog Groomer" winner Posh Paws Pet Grooming. I felt something was missing in my career and, as I started to explore canine sports with my own dogs, I fell in love with training. I?m currently most well known for the training of my own dog "Rocky the Bat Dog" who retrieves bats for our local Johnson City Doughboys baseball team. I am an AKC Certified CGC and Trick Dog evaluator and an AKC Fetch Judge! I love finding what motivates each dog and using that to make training fun and enjoyable for everyone involved. I believe dogs thrive in structured environments and enjoy having a job to do! Teaching clients how to read their dogs body language and how to better communicate together is my favorite part about the job. Being able to aid in strengthening your bond together brings me so much joy! I can't wait to help you establish structure in your home and maybe even spark some interest in a new canine sport!

Oscar (my 85 pound, 4 from, mixed breed) and I have worked with Lucas to be the best dog he can be. He has learned a lot. Basics were easy, so we moved on to walking and his loud barking. Lucas did remind me he is 1/2 German Shepherd and 1/2 hound dog. So he is very smart and has a lot to say! I will continue to work with Dog Wizard & Lucas because there is so much more to learn! Meanwhile, Oscar is a much happier dog & we are a much happier dog family!

Dog Wizard really helped us with our dog. Biggest problem was walking the dog. She almost impossible to control and was always pulling so much on the leash that it was essentially an episode of resistance training for me and really unpleasant to walk her. She was resistant to training at first but Meg and the Dog Wizard team had a variety of methods and she now is much better and continues to improve. In addition she will come to me when called and place and stay when told. Absolutely great experience with Dog Wizard. Recommend highly.

Oh my, where to start. We rescued a 15 month (ish) old Great Pyrenees a few weeks ago. We tried an above ground electric containment system to keep her with us and watched it fail miserably. And then we hired Meg and The Dog Wizard and watched our girl transform into an even sweeter and much more behaved girl. I’m excited to put the skills she taught both of us to use!

Meg did a fabulous job in training my dog Laila and me too! She is patient and helps guide you for success! My dog struggled with walking on a leash and also hearing loud noises and getting scared on walks. We worked on her confidence and knowing she was safe while also walking properly! It’s amazing how different she is and walks are so enjoyable now. I loved how she incorporates different settings and distractions for your dog during training. highly recommend Meg. She has a bubbly personality, easy going, and so knowledgeable about the training!

Bohdi has been described as having a "strong personality ". A nice way of saying, he's stubborn, but smart.
A 3 year old Bichon Frise, he had Mom wrapped around his paw. Leash pulling, barking and growling at people and other dogs. He even tried to bite someone.
Easily distracted, I said he had "FOMO"...fear of missing out. Although he had a 2 week puppy training, we didn't do a great job at home. I had hip and back surgery that prevented ME from following up.
Enter The Dog Wizard and Meg Hackett. You say it's not magic but I disagree. Meg is magical with her training! Meg has a special connection with dogs. They trust her. They listen to her calm and patient commands. They love her and want to please her.
Bohdi is a well trained now. And, so is his Mom.
Thank you Meg ❤️

About The Dog Wizard Tri Cities

Our dog training goes beyond basic commands like Sit, Come, and Down. Our approach focuses on helping your dog make better choices and respond to you instead of their impulses.

We cover all the essential obedience commands you need to communicate effectively with your dog. But more importantly, we teach your dog to stay engaged and follow through with these commands, even in the most distracting environments.

Our goal is to enhance your dog’s understanding of obedience, making it a natural part of their behavior, not just a few tricks they perform when they feel like it.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Dog Wizard Tri Cities offers a free evaluation. Most locations will even come to you to do one! This enables our trainers to meet you and your dog, go over your training goals and find a program that works for you. Give us a call and we will help you set one up.
The Dog Wizard trainers are well versed in a variety of training tools; from food to collars to remote collars. We know that not all dogs do well with every tool and we will help you decide what tool is best for your dog as well as what tools you’re comfortable with using. At the end of the day, whatever tool you’re comfortable in using will be the one you’re most consistent in using and that’s what’s most important to us.
It is never too late to start teaching your dog new habits. It will take more time and effort than teaching a new puppy but you will love the outcome.

In order to know how long it will take to train your dog, we will need to do a free consultation. During your consultation, we will get to understand what you are looking to gain from the training as well as evaluate your dog to see what we will need to do to get him where you would like him to be. At that point, we will be able to give you a timeline for his training.

We do not have a one size fits all approach to training. Each dog owner team that has a free evaluation will have a customized program designed to fit your specific needs. Because of this, individualized system pricing varies. Give us a call and we will help you set one up
