We had an amazing experience with the Dog Wizard and Sam. We’ve worked with other trainers and done a board and train before and this was the first time we’ve seen real improvement with our dog. Sam was wonderful, he didn’t just tell us what to do, he took the time to explain the rationale behind the training, his whiteboard seasons were awesome! Can’t recommend them enough.

We had an exceptional experience with The Dog Wizard Georgetown-- from our initial contact assessing our pup Cody's needs through his 2-week board and train and follow up lessons.

Cody is a wonderful, energetic, 3-year-old rescue, and we were looking to improve his follow through with commands, his on-leash behavior, and his general reactivity to dogs and other triggers. Cody was trained by Sam, about whom we truly can not say enough good things. Sam's approach focuses on positive reinforcement, while also being firm, clear, and consistent about expectations and boundaries. As we soon learned, much of Cody's training depends on his parents' "training," and Sam worked with us during and after Cody's stay to help us understand how to form a better relationship with our pup and get the behavioral results we were looking for.

When we picked up Cody after boarding, he already displayed significant improvements and positive changes (without any change to his exuberant and happy self). In the following weeks, with Sam's endless guidance at in person lessons and on phone calls and texts, we've continued to work and improve upon Cody's new learning.

The Board and Train program was an investment, and we wanted it to make a impact. We were not disappointed. Sam's understanding of dogs is truly remarkable. His dedication to work with us is equally amazing and appreciated. We are so thankful to Sam and to The Dog Wizard for this great experience for Cody and for us.

We could not be happier with the Georgetown dog wizard. The trainer, Autumn, was nice, professional, and extremely effective. From the moment she met our one year old doberman, Chico, they were friends and we could already see an improvement in his behavior after the first visit. Our pup is a good boy but he had some issues with listening to commands, barking, leash walks, and regulating his behavior. Now, five weeks later, these problems are minimal and Autumn gave us the tools to continue the training and build on the already impressive improvements in Chico's behavior. We highly recommend the Georgetown dog wizard.

All the great things I could say about the Dog Wizard won’t fit in this review, but I will try to highlight the most relevant. To start our trainer Autumn was absolutely phenomenal. She has lived up to and exceeded all our hopes and expectations for this program. I adopted a super fearful and anxious puppy, Belle, who had just completed a board and train with another company, but still needed a lot of work and help. She was super hesitant and wary of pretty much everything and anyone (suitcases, trash bins, any largeish object, people walking, biking, running) and also anything that made noise and/or was big (cars, buses, construction, leaf blowers, etc.). We couldn’t even walk around our apartment complex let alone go anywhere outside of it without Belle shutting down or experiencing immense fear. We did the 8 week private freedom program with Autumn and it was the best decision I could’ve made for Belle because she got training but so did I as her owner. Autumn really helped me understand what was going on in Belles head and how to read her body language and pick up on cues before something happened (she would freeze up and dart away which can be extremely dangerous especially with all the roads and traffic right where we live). Autumn taught me how to help manage Belles stress through exposure to her environment, being sensitive to Belles threshold around triggers and taught us commands that helped Belle interact in a positive and fun way with everything around her. Each weeks lesson was built upon the last and the homework she gave us to practice weekly was invaluable because it really helped Belle learn to trust me and strengthen our bond. Autumns knowledge about dogs behavior and psychology is truly remarkable and her ability to counteract, address and educate me about the problems and issues we were facing was incredible. She answered any and every question I had and Im happy to report that after completing this program Belle and I can go pretty much go anywhere. We walk around our neighborhood daily, can go downtown in busier areas, and Belle comes with me on shopping trips in stores. This is a dog that couldn’t even walk by a knee high trash bin without spazzing out and experiencing great fear and now she has fun touching all the scary objects she comes across. Belle still gets nervous and anxious in some situations but the difference is now we can work through that nervousness together and I know how to help her manage her anxiety and she also has the confidence to work through scary situations herself. I’m truly happy we chose to do this and I’m beyond grateful that we got Autumn as our trainer. There’s good dog trainers and even great dog trainers and then there’s Autumn who set Belle and I up for a lifetime of success. I can’t thank her enough.

We have had a great experience with Scott at DC Dog Wizard! Our new rescue was having anxiety issues, fear based aggression and was not doing well calmly meeting other dogs. We ended up doing the training with both of our dogs so our older dog could brush up on skills as well. They both took to the training quickly and each week Scott was able to build on the skills we learnt the week before. The great thing about Scott's training is if you need a little brush up on training or just a little more structure after your training is done thats provided for you. We felt and still feel supported. With our second dog who already did well with commands we were still able to teach him new things and Scott gave us some additional fun tricks so he got a lot out of the training too. With Scott's help we were even able to teach Bentley to jump and balance on fire hydrants! What fun!

Frequently Asked Questions

The Dog Wizard Georgetown offers a free evaluation. Most locations will even come to you to do one! This enables our trainers to meet you and your dog, go over your training goals and find a program that works for you. Give us a call and we will help you set one up.
The Dog Wizard trainers are well versed in a variety of training tools; from food to collars to remote collars. We know that not all dogs do well with every tool and we will help you decide what tool is best for your dog as well as what tools you’re comfortable with using. At the end of the day, whatever tool you’re comfortable in using will be the one you’re most consistent in using and that’s what’s most important to us.
It is never too late to start teaching your dog new habits. It will take more time and effort than teaching a new puppy but you will love the outcome.

In order to know how long it will take to train your dog, we will need to do a free consultation. During your consultation, we will get to understand what you are looking to gain from the training as well as evaluate your dog to see what we will need to do to get him where you would like him to be. At that point, we will be able to give you a timeline for his training.

We do not have a one size fits all approach to training. Each dog owner team that has a free evaluation will have a customized program designed to fit your specific needs. Because of this, individualized system pricing varies. Give us a call and we will help you set one up
