Andrew Martin

Trainer

Andrew grew up in central Ohio and had his first dog training experience in 4H working with his family dog. Having friends and colleagues frequently ask for advice and enjoying helping others as much as he could, he knew learning more would allow him to help even more dogs and their owners. In 2016 Louisville Dog Wizard invited Andrew to join the team and after 2 years with the Louisville team he joined the Grand Rapids Dog Wizard to continue helping dogs and their owners communicate and enjoy life to the fullest!

Sarah Anderson

Trainer, Owner

Coming from a military family we moved a lot. The one thing that remained constant was family. Growing up we always had a dog. Never have they been just a pet, they were our family. In everything we did, our dog would be included. I have always shown a love for animals from a small age. Aspiring to work with animals and helping others has continuously been something I have wanted to do. In the past I have worked in the Mental Health field. I loved working with people and it proved to be rewarding and challenging. But at the end of the day, I would still find myself yearning for more. When the idea to become part of the Dog Wizard family was offered to me, I shrugged it off thinking it would be an unrealistic endeavor for me. I found my thoughts to be gravitating towards dog training, catching myself daydreaming about the possibilities of combining my passions to help both dogs and people. By obtaining my dreams, I am able to help people have a better relationship with their dog, and that's the best of both worlds!

Had our in-home consultation today and I cannot say enough about our experience! So professional, knowledgeable, and just a genuine sense of caring. I feel horrible I cannot remember our consultation gals name but I truly appreciate every second she spent with us today. I feel more confident and informed after just one conversation - amazing!

Love, love, love working with Sarah! She is patient, good at explaining and showing. I had tons of questions and was very unsure of how or what to do. She taught me how to work with my dogs, she was encouraging and helpful in every question and concern I had. My dogs are amazing, we get compliments ALL the time. I recommend dog wizard and Sarah to everyone.

We have had a great experience using the Dog Wizard in Grand Rapids to train our 2 dogs. When we got a new puppy from a shelter, we decided to send her to Sarah for the 2 week board & train. Our puppy knew nothing when she started and came back knowing all of the basic commands and walking better on a leash. Sarah came over to our house a couple times after that (included in the initial price) to help train us on how to keep progressing with her.

Since we had such a good experience with our first dog, we decided to send our 8-year-old, very high energy, super food motivated pitbull to board and train. Sarah was able to help us with some long-term problem behaviors that we have struggled with for years.

Dog training is a combination of training the dog and training the owner. No dog will maintain good behavior if the owner doesn't stay consistent. Sarah helped all of us do our part and our dogs are doing really well because of it. We would highly recommend The Dog Wizard!

Sarah was wonderful to work with. We did private lessons. Our new puppy is a stubborn breed that I was having a hard time training on my own. Now I have the tools I need! Stevie is still a work in progress but already much more obedient than prior to starting lessons!

We had started training with Sarah for a 6 year old dog we fostered that had some difficult behaviors. We later signed up again when our reactive, anxious Weimaraner pup was 6 months old. He just graduated after 2 months and we are very pleased with the results. Sarah is a game changer. She is gentle, warm and wise. She is a skilled educator for both the canine and human part of the pack. In both instances the dog's behavior was much improved from the very first session. It's an ongoing process but Sarah provided us with expert structure and guidance and we could not be more appreciative!

About The Dog Wizard Grand Rapids

Our dog training goes beyond basic commands like Sit, Come, and Down. Our approach focuses on helping your dog make better choices and respond to you instead of their impulses.

We cover all the essential obedience commands you need to communicate effectively with your dog. But more importantly, we teach your dog to stay engaged and follow through with these commands, even in the most distracting environments.

Our goal is to enhance your dog’s understanding of obedience, making it a natural part of their behavior, not just a few tricks they perform when they feel like it.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Dog Wizard Grand Rapids offers a free evaluation. Most locations will even come to you to do one! This enables our trainers to meet you and your dog, go over your training goals and find a program that works for you. Give us a call and we will help you set one up.
The Dog Wizard trainers are well versed in a variety of training tools; from food to collars to remote collars. We know that not all dogs do well with every tool and we will help you decide what tool is best for your dog as well as what tools you’re comfortable with using. At the end of the day, whatever tool you’re comfortable in using will be the one you’re most consistent in using and that’s what’s most important to us.
It is never too late to start teaching your dog new habits. It will take more time and effort than teaching a new puppy but you will love the outcome.

In order to know how long it will take to train your dog, we will need to do a free consultation. During your consultation, we will get to understand what you are looking to gain from the training as well as evaluate your dog to see what we will need to do to get him where you would like him to be. At that point, we will be able to give you a timeline for his training.

We do not have a one size fits all approach to training. Each dog owner team that has a free evaluation will have a customized program designed to fit your specific needs. Because of this, individualized system pricing varies. Give us a call and we will help you set one up
